Description
Beet powder is the dried and grounded form of Non-GMO fresh beetroots. It is dark red in colour, and has a slightly sweet and earthy taste – just like the plant itself. For those who don’t enjoy the bitterness of beets but still wish to obtain its health benefits, you can incorporate beet powder into your diet instead!
Beetroots are rich in antioxidants, dietary fibre, calcium, iron, potassium, folate, and manganese, along with other nutrients. Perhaps most remarkably, beets are naturally rich in nitrate, compounds that can support blood flow and lower blood pressure, leading to notable health benefits.
Fun fact: One teaspoon of beet powder is equivalent to one whole beetroot!

Perhaps you have heard of borscht, the Eastern European sour soup made with beets and served hot or cold. The Polish word barszcz means borscht, but this soup is slightly different. Whereas traditional borscht is an opaque purple and commonly includes meat, tomatoes, and cabbage, barszcz is more of a basic beet broth that is somewhat translucent, whether red or white in color.
Beetroot powder is usually more concentrated and can provide more nutritional benefits in a smaller serving than in the plant form. Add 1 - 2 teaspoons to your barszcz recipe to have a healthier soup but a richer flavour in your soup. -
Uses
- Out of all meat substitutes, the traditional Middle Eastern falafel is one of our favourites. Westpoint’s Falafel Mix is made of garbanzo beans, seasoned with herbs and spices. We added our Red Beet Powder to give them a colour and nutrition boost.
- Blend in smoothies or post-workout protein shakes
- Use as a natural food dye in red velvet cupcakes, beet pancakes, sauces or gravies
- Mix in hummus
- Include in a soup or stew such as Barszcz, the popular sour soup in Eastern European countries.
- Sprinkle on top of salad or air-popped popcorn as a healthy seasoning -
Storage
If kept in a cool dry place, the shelf life should approximately be 1 year without appreciable loss of flavour or functional characteristics.
