Brown rice is whole rice with only the hull removed. Short grain rice contains more of the starchy substance called glutin (not to be confused with gluten), which makes it stickier than long grain.
-
Directions
Rinse 1 cup rice and add to 2 1/2 cups water. Bring to a boil, stir, cover, and simmer gently for 45 mins.
-
Uses
Rice is a multifunctional grain: it can be steamed, boiled, or fried as a side dish, or used for stuffing, pudding, pilaf, and risotto. Brown rice can be used as a nutritious substitute for white rice in almost any recipe.
