Vegan or not, plant-based diets have taken over social media and people are demanding for more. The reason to go meatless varies. Some do it for the animals, the environment, their health, and some simply wanted to explore new tastes.
Becoming a vegan involves significant changes to your diet. Foods that you have been eating, you might need to eliminate them for good. Since meat is the common source of protein, iron, B vitamins and magnesium, going meatless means you will have to get these nutrients from other food sources. Taking this into account, we came up with the ultimate vegan bowl for the best nutrient-kick!
Quinoa
Out of all types of grains, we chose quinoa because it is gluten free, protein-rich and very nutritious. Quinoa is a complete protein with all nine essential amino acids. It is a great source of iron and magnesium – two vital nutrients that vegans often lack!
Beet Falafel
Out of all meat substitutes, the traditional Middle Eastern falafel is one of our favourites. Westpoint’s Falafel Mix is made of garbanzo beans, seasoned with herbs and spices. We added our Red Beet Powder to give them a colour and nutrition boost. Learn more about the benefits of beet powder here!
Avocado
Avocado is the new king of fruits in the vegan community. Not only is it delicious and nutritious, it is also very versatile and can be consumed in different ways. Our Kelp Sea Salt goes well on avocados. You must try our Japanese-inspired avocado toast recipe here!
Hemp Seed
Hemp seed might be tiny but do not underestimate its powers. About 25% of the calories in hemp seed come from complete protein. It is quite high considering how small each seed is. Hemp also contains a perfect ratio of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. They both support the normal physical development of the brain, eyes and nerves!
Nutritional Yeast
Give your bowl a last touch by sprinkling nutritional yeast on top. As most health enthusiasts know, nutritional yeast is fortified with B vitamins that can only be obtained from animal products. It also has a cheesy and nutty flavour to satisfy your savoury palate. Learn more about it here.
